ILE strengthens institute relations in USA ILE's president had important meetings in Washington, New York and Atlanta |

November 4, 2005 San Borja, LIMA.- ILE's President, Jose L. Tapia-Rocha, went to USA with the purpose to deep relations with institutes, individuals and donors on October 19 - November 1, 2005 in Washington, New York and Atlanta. Tapia began his series of meeting on october 19 in Washington DC with Ian Vásquez, director of Project Global Economic Freedom of Cato Institute to inform on recents economic and politics facts in Peru and to explore posibilities of cooperation between Cato Institute and ILE. In the afternoon, Tapia met with John Zemko, Senior Official to Latin America of Center for International Private Enterprise (CIPE) to enforce institute relations, also, to establish ways of cooperation and communications to propose solutions which imporve business environment in Perú and to develope free market capitalism in emerging sectors in Peru. From october 20-23, Tapia participated at the Art of Persuation seminar organized by Cato University where atteende more than 100 individuals from different countries which its objective was to know differents way to persuade on benefits of freedom. During these four days, ILE's President exchanged and closed links with differents promoters of freedom as: Tom G. Palmer, Director of Cato University; David Kelley, President of Objectivist Center; William S. Pierce, Candidate for Governador of Ohio; Marina Kienast of Argentina; Michael D. Podguski, Development Coordinator of Cato Institute; David E. Shellenberger, Executive Director Of Morgan Stanley of New York; Sebastian Soto, Apsa Congressional Fellowship Program; and Arturo Lopez-Levy, Associate researcher of University of Denver. On thursday,october 20, in the morning, Tapia was invited by Atlas Economic Research Foundation to share with other analysts political and economic analysis from different countries as Rusia, Peru, Africa and EEUU. Tapia expressed his concern on last political facts from his country and recent grow of nationalist presidential candidate Ollanta Humala in last national polls. Also, stated there is a evident fatigue of peruvian political class which Outsiders are taking advantage and are dangerous stated by peruvian analysts due to peruvian voter are in hands of presidential candidates withouth serious proposals to achieve a real change from merchantilism to free market that peruvians demand implicitly. On october 23 by afternoon met with Alvaro Vargas Llosa, Director of Centre of Global Prosperity of Independent Institute to exchange point of views on peruvian political and economic situation, in the perspective to find solutions which contribute to develope individual liberties. In these sense, Vargas Llosa offered collaborate with ILE to carry joint projects in medium term. Tapia went to New York by a invitation from International Policy Network (IPN) de Londres to participate in its annual dinner to award Bastiat Prize to journalism on october 25 where was winning the journalist Mary Anastasia ÓGrady, Americas Column Editor of The Wall Street Journal. ILE´s president was next to O'Grady, Ian Vásquez of Cato Institute, and senior officials from Merck company; Grey F. Warner, Senior Vice President of Latin America Human Health; J. Anthony Imler, Director, Policy, Latin America; Margalit Edelman, Manager, Public Affairs and Policy, Latin America; and David Greeley, Senior Director, External Affairs, Latin America Human Health. Also, exchanged ideas for future collaborations in affairs of intellectual property and health with Kendra Okonski, Director of Environmental Program and Alec van Gelder, Researcher, from International Policy Network based in London. After his trip to New York, Tapia traveled to Geensville, Atlanta in October 31 to meet with Barry Conner, President of America's Home Place Inc. and Pastor Demetrio Villacorta of "My Amigo Jesus" christian center where designed different ways of collaboration to reinforce ILE presence in USA and to attract more foreign donors in next meetings for next year.
